MY STORY

I was born in Ruijin, China and adopted into an interracial family when I was 13 months old. My parents told me when I was younger that I sang for the first time during a bus ride when we were still in China, shortly after they had held me for the first time. I started taking piano lessons when I was just five years old.

When I was 13, I was diagnosed with clinical depression and anxiety. Most people would describe me as happy and always living my life to the fullest, but on the inside I was slowly fading away. During this time, I felt very hopeless and often contemplated ending my life.

My song "Into The Night," written in 2017, was my first completed original composition. Sharing my experiences through music became a healthy coping mechanism for me to turn to. The lyrics in this song describe how there is always light in darkness, and how you must break through to shine.

My music often reflects experiences I have gone through. I am constantly questioning my identity and wondering more about both myself and my biological history. Having so many Unknowns about the beginning of my life has presented me with the difficulty of self-acceptance.

My story is compiled of many pieces, which you will find through different forms of self-expression in the following: music, blogs, and poetry. I hope you join me on my journey and feel empowered to share yours too.
